Resting in Quiet Light
Once upon a time, I dreamed of becoming an archaeologist. I’ve always loved history, artifacts, and the stories held in the objects people once used every day. These antique glasses — along with another even older pair — have been in my possession for many years. Their frames are astonishingly thin, yet strong enough to have survived across generations without a single scratch on the glass. I still keep the brown leather case with its metal brace inside, designed to protect these givers of sight. They are wondrous to me.
A pair of my great‑grandfather’s antique brass glasses rests gently against the page, their soft shadow giving them a quiet, almost tangible presence. Fine, deliberate lines echo the craftsmanship of the glasses themselves, while warm brass tones catch the light in subtle, layered shifts. The shadow grounds them just enough to suggest weight, yet the overall effect remains airy — as if they were set down only for a moment, pausing between thoughts.
More than a rendering of an object, this piece becomes a study in stillness, clarity, and the quiet beauty found in everyday artifacts of bygone years.
Spend a moment with this drawing to feel the calm presence held within its light and shadow.
