Autumn's Touch, Tangible
Project type
Colored Pencil
Date
October 2025
After completing the small leaf studies on birch wood, I moved on to full‑sized leaves gathered from the trees around my home in North Carolina during late fall. I chose each one with care — for its color, its texture, its edges softened by time, or its delicate state of decay. Every leaf felt like a masterpiece crafted by Mother Nature herself. I will always be her student, learning from the beauty others step over, rake away, or never pause long enough to see. Each leaf carries its own story of sunlit days and creature-filled nights. I treasure the journey held in every vein.
This piece presents a carefully arranged collection of four autumn leaves, each distinct in color, shape, and size. Rendered in colored pencil with striking realism, the composition highlights the individuality of each leaf while celebrating their quiet harmony as a group. Natural shadows fall across the surface, creating a depth so vivid the leaves appear ready to be lifted from the paper.
The work invites viewers to slow down and notice the overlooked beauty of the season — the fragile edges, the subtle veins, the fleeting vibrancy of fall. Through precision and warmth, the drawing transforms a simple gathering of leaves into a meditation on change, memory, and the tactile presence of nature.
