Gathering the Raindrops & Light

I found this moment in my mom’s backyard — a vibrant green bush holding raindrops like tiny jewels. I’m always looking for beauty without meaning to, and this plant stopped me in my tracks. I leaned in, searching for the right light, trying to honor what I saw.

Later, as I drew each droplet and studied the way light curved around them, I realized something I hadn’t noticed at all in the moment: every drop held a reflection of me. A small silhouette against the sky, upright in some, upside‑down in others. It felt like the rain had not only caught my attention, but caught me too.

This piece is built slowly with layered colored pencils on warm brown paper, with an organic edge that keeps the drawing rooted in the place where it began.
