Dualities in Watercolor and Pencil

Project type

Colored pencil and watercolors

Date

October 2025

This collection brings together two mixed‑media studies that explore how watercolor and colored pencil can shape mood, presence, and emotional weight. Each piece centers on a single leaf, yet the atmospheres they inhabit could not be more different.
One floats across dark, moody water, its form emerging from deep washes of blue and black. The other rests in soft illumination, touched by gentle light and grounded by a delicate shadow.
Together, they reveal how a simple subject can shift dramatically through changes in tone, texture, and light. Watercolor creates the surrounding atmosphere—fluid, shadowed, or airy—while colored pencil sharpens the leaf into crisp, tactile focus.
Viewed side by side, these works become a quiet meditation on contrast: heaviness and ease, depth and openness, darkness and brightness.
This pair invites viewers to pause, compare, and feel how two interpretations of a single form can hold entirely different emotional worlds.
