Peaceful Calm Landscape
Project type
Watercolor Paintings
Date
2022
I came to watercolor without formal training, only time — long, quiet stretches of it — as I recovered from bilateral mastectomy surgery following an invasive breast cancer diagnosis. Cancer, surgery, and healing bring their own kind of storm, and in the midst of it I reached for peaceful scenes, soft color, and gentle landscapes as a way to bring beauty, calm, and a sense of freedom back into my days.
This project gathers several of those early watercolor landscapes, each one an exploration of atmosphere, softness, and the quiet presence of nature. Some pieces are original scenes; others are studies inspired by fellow artists — small, steady exercises in understanding light, color, and the serene moods watercolor can evoke.
Across the collection, calm horizons, softened edges, and muted transitions of color create a sense of stillness and ease. These works reflect both experimentation and appreciation: a period where technique, observation, and serenity met on the page, offering moments of rest during a time of rebuilding.
Viewed together, the project offers a glimpse into the earliest steps of a watercolor journey shaped by curiosity, practice, and the enduring beauty of tranquil landscapes.
